I am a registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers. I have been providing counseling to individuals, families and groups for the last 12 years. My current counseling practice includes adolescents, young adults and adults.
I have specialized training in the following issues: mood disorders, anxiety, self-harming behaviours and suicidal ideation, eating disorders, trauma, grief and loss and addiction. I have received training in empirically validated therapies such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. My approach is one of ethical care and practice, utilizing evidence based therapy models that best meet your individual needs.
In addition to my private practice, I also act as a consultant to mental health organizations, providing training, professional development and implementation of newly developed evidence based practices to other mental health practitioners. My passion and commitment for working with individuals suffering with mental health issues stems from my own personal life experiences and my volunteer work at Syl Apps Youth Centre, where I worked as a one-to-one counselor over 17 years ago.
I began actively pursuing my interest in mental health and social services throughout my academic career, including a Master of Social Work degree at Laurier University, where I also completed a thesis on eating disorders. Additionally, I have an honours undergraduate degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice and Public Policy from the University of Guelph.
